| Name: | Raymond |
|---|
Character Name: Lord Raymond of Cornwell, AKA Raven.
Character Series: Fire Emblem: Rekka no Ken.
Age: 19.
Background: Note: Given the nature of the Fire Emblem series, the following biography, the later bits in particular, assume that both Raven and Lucius a.) join the party and b.) survive the various people and non-people trying to kill them, as well as c.) don't miss any of their mutual support conversations.
Raven's past is pretty sketchy, and needs to be pieced together through various optional conversations. Raymond grew up as the son and heir of House Cornwell. He had a little sister, Priscilla, whom he was exceptionally close to, and whom he promised to marry when they grew up (this was when they were much, much younger. Nineteen-year old Raven seems to be quite mortified when Priscilla brings it up in the game.) Time passed, Priscilla was fostered out to a different Noble House, and House Cornwell adopted an orphan boy, Lucius, shortly thereafter. The two became close over the years and have lots of slashy subtext.
Not much is known beyond that up until the time when Raymond is about sixteen or seventeen, when Cornwell is destroyed (depending on who is asked, different people have different opinions on exactly what happened). Raymond, under the assumption that the House of Ostia is responsible, sets out to get his revenge. He changes his name to Raven, and hiring himself out as a mercenary, along with Lucius, joins the army of Caelin (which, actually, has no apparent quarrel with Ostia, and is sorta allied with them, but hey, guy's gotta eat). Both are taken prisoner when the army of Marquess Laus takes over Castle Caelin (by the way, Raven only surrendered after Lucius was taken hostage), but when Raven learns that the Hector, the younger brother of the Marquess Ostia, is aiding the heir of Caelin in her attempt to reclaim the castle, he immediately switches sides (He's very forceful about it. He threatens to kick the door down and start butchering the guards if they don't let him out so he can start butchering Our Heroes). However, Raven switches sides yet again when confronted by Priscilla, who has sided with Hector's group. After explaining to her that his name is now Raven, he joins the group and dashes off to retrieve Lucius, who joins as well.
The two have many adventures with their rag-tag band of fellow fugitives, nobles, criminals, pirates (okay, one pirate) stalwart knights, women with flying horses, men with very big axes, people of both genders with bloody great flying lizards, quirky mages, quirky clergy, quirky archers, ect, ect. They end up saving the world and some of them die, though barely any if the player is skilled and restarts the game often.
It's pretty heavily implied that Raven was planning to either assassinate Hector, or was hoping that his association with Hector's group will bring him into contact with Marquess Ostia, who he also wanted to kill. However, he eventually confesses to Lucius that he is beginning to doubt that Ostia was actually behind the attack on Cornwell. After the game, he reveals his past to Hector, who offers to help him restore Cornwell. Raven refuses, and he and Lucius walk off into the metaphorical sunset in order to resume their lives as mercenaries. And then they apparently open an orphanage later on. Or Lucius does. But that's prequel/sequel territory in there. No idea what happens to Raven himself.
Personality: Raven comes off as the strong, silent, and competent type, which is true. He also comes off as the cold, ruthless bastard of a warrior type, which is also true, but less so. He rarely shows softer emotions, expressing affection with harsh words and harsher advice, occasional teasing, and rarely, actual smiling, proving that he did not, in fact, make that face one too many times and it stuck that way. His greatest fear is losing the people that he cares about - i.e., Lucius and Priscilla, and he tries to send both of them away multiple times, for fear that they'll be killed. Both of them stand firm in their resolve, and Raven eventually gives in to their wishes and lets them stay by him.
Raven's pretty perceptive when he's not on a vengeance streak. He's not all that interested in people, though, so it's not something one sees in action very often. He has what appears to be a sense of humor, but he's so totally deadpan about it that it's difficult to tell. He generally doesn't start sniping at someone unless he's known them for a while, or they're really annoying him. ((I probably play him as less bitchy than he should be. Feel free to poke me on AIM if you notice me slipping.))
He takes good care of his equipment, and doesn't like not knowing about things. Yeah, he's not going to be happy when he wakes up.
Item Lost: The memory of confessing to Hector.
Memento:
Well, he's been keeping in shape with his farming job, and he's remembered a bit about House Cornwell burning down.
He's made friends (to use the term loosely in most cases) with...
-Mitsukuni sorta sets off his big brother instincts. He's far more annoying than Priscilla even at her worst, and possibly insane, but Raven's getting used to it. Plus, he did take him in and explain the situation, so yeah. Raven kinda owes for that.
-Kakyou's okay. They don't really bother each other ('cause I keep forgetting to do so XD It gets complicated when two of my characters know the same person).
-Lucius... Hoo. That's complicated. They have... like. Tangible subtext.
-Naruto... Given how they met, Raven's a bit wary about him. He's kinda suppressing what happened. Otherwise, he thinks Naruto's decent but a bit dim.
-Deidara freaks him the fuck out. It's mostly the pyromania. Also, his subconscious is aware that it was Deidara having noisy sex on the floor directly below a while back, and is holding a minor grudge over that.
-Gohan he feels friendly towards. The kid's polite, competent, and intelligent. Also he doesn't mess with his hair or set things on fire or turn into a buck naked woman for personal amusement.
-Kenpachi is a definite Suspicious Character, especially since Raven never did find out what he was doing in the woods with...
-Chii, who is also Suspicious, but she isn't a giant hulking man with giant hulking hair and a record for violence.
-Bruce is... damn. They didn't really interact much. But. Batman.
-Damien is sort of a mini-Wil. Except. Brattier. >> He's fond of the kid, but hell if he'll admit it.
-Priscilla. This would require a bloody essay. To sum up, she's his sister, he loves her, he'd die for her... But there is. Really quite a large amount of secrets and awkward between them.
-Serra. He really really doesn't like Serra, but she's from his homeworld, so he'll put up with her. Oh, and he'll tell her fairly outrageous things on occasion because, even if she passes them on? Who's going to believe her?
-Matthew. He's kinda suspicious of the whole Ostia thing. But Matthew is pyoofed now, alas.
-Ramza. He's probably not from Elibe - armor and swords, without being a mounted knight? Madness! - But he's a rare practical person.
-Samus. Another suspicious person. He's... approving of her, though.
